Become a Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra
Musician
Do you or your child enjoy performing classical music? The Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra offers a professional learning and performing environment for classical students in Central Florida. The Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra consists of:
- Symphonic Orchestra: This 80-member full orchestra is for advanced students of orchestral repertoire. The Symphonic Strings are rotated within the section following a seating plan, excluding the first stand of each string section.
- Philharmonia Orchestra: This 80-member full orchestra is for intermediate to advanced students of orchestral literature. Strings are rotated within the section following a seating plan, excluding the first stand of each string section.
- Prelude Orchestra : This 50-member training ensemble is for strings only. Note reading is required and most Overture Strings students have studied with a private teacher for at least two years. Sectionals with professionals are held periodically during the year. Students are rotated following a seating plan.
- Flute Choir: An auditioned flute choir for flutists who meet the audition score requirements to be accepted into the
FSYO's Philharmonia and Symphonic, but are unable to be seated because seats in the two full orchestras have been filled.
- Overture Strings: A beginning string program for students who are finishing Suzuki Book 2 or a comparable level. No audition is required for this program, it is based on teacher recommendation.
