We open our 54th season with world renowned violin soloist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Symphonic Orchestra. Also featured on the program is a side-by-side performance from Gustav Holst’s, The Planets, with our Philharmonia & Symphonic Orchestras. Performances by Overture Strings and Prelude Orchestra will round out this concert. Join us in the lobby for a post-concert reception and CD signing by Ms. Salerno-Sonnenberg. This concert truly showcases the mentoring & teaching that makes the FSYO the unique experience that it is, as well as one of the finest youth orchestra programs in the Southeast US.

This free recital gives you the rare opportunity to hear some of our finest musicians as they step out of their orchestral roles and perform as soloist. The recital is the final step in our annual Concerto Competition, where up to three winners will be selected to perform their concerto with our conservatory level orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear some of the most talented student musicians in Central Florida perform with just piano accompaniment.

Grab your picnic basket, a comfy chair or blanket and come ring in the holidays with this concert to benefit the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Sponsored by WKMG-TV Local 6, the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras will help you ring in the holidays with a wide selection of holiday music, from traditional beloved favorites to newer compositions that bring fun to this most wonderful time of year. Who knows, a very special jolly old elf might just make a special appearance as well! Share the generosity of the season with the Angel Tree program from the Salvation Army, sharing Christmas with children and seniors in need.

Our Prelude and Philharmonia Orchestras perform at this annual concert, as well as our beginning strings group, Overture Strings. Placing great emphasis on the many benefits of music education and the dedicated music educators in Central Florida, the FSYO presents this concert to honor those who share their vision. We will also be honoring two very special music educators who make a difference in the lives of Central Florida student musicians.

The Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra is excited to announce that it has been invited to participate in the 2010-2011 season of the Celebration Foundation Classical Concert Series. This concert will showcase our most advanced orchestra, Symphonic, under the direction of Music Director Andrew Lane. We are very proud that our amazing young musicians will be performing for a third consecutive season as part of this concert series.
Children Helping Children/Journey to Genius Concert with the Symphonic Orchestra

Journey to Genius is the theme of our annual Children Helping Children Concert, which raises awareness of and funds for a children’s charity and the FSYO. This concert has been designed to provide a family friendly, interactive, engaging, inspiring, and fun educational experience for young and old in the audience. Through the use of video, slides, musician interviews and performances, families can learn about yesterday’s composers and today’s musicians. We are happy to have The Easter Bunny Foundation as our Children Helping Children partner again this season.

The Finale Concert is the culmination of a season of learning & hard work by all of our orchestras and our beginning strings program. Please join the FSYO family as we celebrate all that has been accomplished throughout the season and bid farewell to our graduating high school seniors. A post concert reception will be held in the lobby, where you can chat with the musicians and conductors.
